I think I know...

I think I know now how to describe (see first post: Chapters 1-3) how I feel about The Catcher in the Rye. I wasn't sure what to think because I didn't connect to Holden yet. I like this book because it is different from all the books I have read before. I don't know where the book is going, and I kind-of like that. I do think this book is interesting, but I am not into it enough to keep my fingers glued to the book and my eyes opened. I hope the point comes soon where I can care enough about what might happen, for me to not want to wait and read it.

  1. Great looking blog, Sarah! It's very eye-catching.
I think it's completely normal to be a little unsure of Holden. This is my third time reading Catcher and I can admit now, it wasn't until the second time that I truly felt a connection to Holden.
I'm glad you are having the opportunity to read something new and different. Salinger's goal in writing this was not to create a suspenseful, thrilling plot line, but to develop a complex character that intrigues us, but puzzles us. Salinger allows us to walk along with Holden and his struggles.
    Keep up the great work!

  2. I have a question:

Right now, for this week do I have one or two entries?

    -thanks

  3. This would count for two entries for the week. I'm counting this week as a 'trial' as everyone gets into the swing of things.
    Have a nice, long weekend!

  6. I know what you mean! The first time I read this book, it took me a while for the first few chapters to settle in, it really did. I guess I'm so used to sticking to my straight fantasy-fiction genre that I haven't taken a walk around and looked at something else for awhile. Once I start reading however, it comes, and then sometimes it goes. This story is based around connection (at least I feel like it is) and if you can't make that, then the story can't survive. If you can...that's a different matter. I mean just think of those slightly unbalanced people who testify to their crimes with this book. A connection can be everything, especially in the arts, whether it be printed, designed, composed or drawn, a connection is needed to reach the designated audience!
